Preschool
The youngest children at The Miquon School are the three and four-year-olds in our preschool program.
Miquon's preschool is a haven for curious, imaginative thinkers and learners. Days in preschool are filled with storytelling, singing, building, painting, climbing, digging, splashing in the creek, and exploring Miquon’s wooded campus alongside caring teachers and peers. Play, inquiry, and relationships are at the heart of the experience, creating a joyful environment where young children develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
We believe children learn best through hands-on exploration and meaningful play.
Play-based learning supports children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development, and our program is intentionally designed with those principles in mind.
We have two preschool groups: Meadow and Woodland. Each is led by two co-teachers who weave early literacy and numeracy experiences naturally throughout the day. Children spend significant time outdoors exploring the natural world, playing collaboratively, climbing, digging in the dirt or sand, and discovering the creek and wooded areas that make Miquon unique. Preschool children are also integrated into the life of the school through shared traditions, school-wide activities, and Buddy Time with older children.
Child Development
At this stage of development, children are growing rapidly in physical, social, and emotional ways. Preschool teachers thoughtfully support children as they develop relationships with themselves, with others, and with the larger school community.
Throughout the year, children practice self-care skills such as hand washing, dressing for the weather, and managing personal belongings. They also strengthen communication and collaboration skills by listening to others, expressing ideas, solving problems together, and learning to navigate friendships. Daily routines and group experiences help children build confidence, independence, and comfort with transitions throughout the school day.
