Welcome from Julia Finney, our principal . . .

Welcome to the Miquon web site!

As you explore this site, I hope you get some sense of the joy and love of learning that define this beautiful school on this beautiful campus.  From the youngest 3-year-olds in our Nursery to the oldest students in 6th Grade, our children are celebrated and treasured. Moreover, their childhoods are celebrated as unique and precious – an unrepeatable time that is alive with wonder but that comes to an end much too soon..

At Miquon, every person is a thinker, creator, and contributor.   We encourage children’s curiosity and independence through hands-on learning and exploration of our wonderful, wooded 10 acres.  As a Progressive school, we have a staff that devotes time and effort to understand each child’s individual learning style and to create a diverse and rich program through which our students discover themselves and the world around them.

As a result, Miquon graduates leave us with strong skills and strong self-knowledge – along with the belief that learning is fun!  They go on to a wide array of middle schools where they are consistently welcomed as positive, thoughtful, and valuable members of their communities.

As Miquon looks forward to its 75th Anniversary in 2007, we can look back and see that Progressive education changed 19th century attitudes about how we should educate our children. We also feel proud of the positive impact Miquon has had on the lives of our graduates – many of whom treasure their Miquon diploma above all others and credit Miquon with nurturing and inspiring their tender emerging selves. And we are looking for ways to continue in our tradition – to be an institution that thinks, creates, and contributes to our wider society.

Please continue learning about us, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Yours,

Julia Finney
