Long-Term Assignments

UPDATE 3/21/10:
This section has been replaced by our
new homework blog which contains not only documents relating to long-term assignments but also a listing of the daily assignments and any teacher-created handouts.

Archive:

This is the section in which you will find detailed descriptions of special projects that span several days or weeks.

There will be printable copies here of the handouts that we gave to the students in class. If you have questions about your child's work or the schedule of due dates, those handouts are the first place to check. They should be in your child's notebook. If your child can't find or doesn't have those pages, you can locate them here and print them out.

FIRST-PERSON BOOKS (September/October 2009)
Students are reading self-chosen books told in the first person (fiction or autobiography). This is intended to support their diary-writing work in our wagon train simulation by encouraging development of descriptions and characters from a single viewpoint. Three pages of directions (below) explain the requirements, the due dates, and advice for completing the written work and art project.

LITERATURE GROUPS (November/December 2009)
We have five different titles going among our 14 readers. We're taking our first excursion into "Web 2.0" by setting up a wiki for our readers to respond to questions and share responses to their books. If you'd like to follow what we're doing, go to Book Conversations.

AUTHOR STUDIES (January/February 2010)
Students have chosen authors old and new, ranging from Agatha Christie to Oisin McGann. They are busy reading books (at least three) and posting opinions, summaries, and facts about their author's life on their own blog pages. The project will culminate with a poster and talk by each student. To see their blogs, go to:
http://authorstudy#.edublogs.org (but be sure to replace the # with the student's classroom number).
